Care for the elderly

Project to support the elderly

Bevar Ukraine, with the support of the Velux Foundation, implemented a project focused on social adaptation and psychological well-being for Ukrainian displaced persons with extensive life experience.

The goal of the project is to promote socialization, improve communication, develop new skills, introduce participants to Danish culture, and unlock their creative potential.
More than 850 elderly people took part in the project.

A total of 35 groups were created, bringing together participants in temporary accommodation centers for displaced persons across various regions of Denmark.

Communities of elderly Ukrainians

As part of the project, in various regions of Denmark, elderly Ukrainian displaced persons united into vibrant and friendly groups with wonderful Ukrainian names such as “Barvinok,” “Chornobryvtsi,” “Restless Ones,” “Dreamers 55+,” and others.

In these groups, compatriots support one another, make new friends, spend time together, and overcome the loneliness that arises far from their homeland.

Leisure in the hygge style

With the support of Bevar Ukraine and the project’s partners, groups of elderly displaced persons visited various excursions, art exhibitions, theater performances, street art festivals, explored Denmark’s historical landmarks, took part in outdoor activities, and enjoyed active recreation at sports venues.

But most importantly — they shared communication and connection in a warm, friendly Ukrainian circle inspired by the Danish concept of hygge.

Communication continues

The groups formed by elderly Ukrainian displaced persons within the project continue to maintain communication and connection.

Such self-organization and mutual support contribute to their successful integration in Denmark while helping them preserve their connection to Ukrainian traditions.

Digital skills for confidence and communication

Bevar Ukraine has launched a computer literacy course for elderly people.

Its author and instructor, IT specialist Vitalii Bozadzhy, explains in a lecture format how to become an active gadget user, communicate on social media, master online services, and make friends with AI.

These skills build confidence, expand social connections, and enhance adaptation to modern conditions.

Art therapy for psychological support

Bevar Ukraine, together with psychologist and art coach Yulia Dmukh, conducts art therapy sessions for psychological support for elderly people.

Creative activities have a positive effect on mental health and emotional well-being: they relieve tension, restore balance, awaken vitality, activate inner resources, and overall facilitate social adaptation and the development of interpersonal skills.
